Mustelier Guides G-Braves to 6-0 Win

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA – Ronnier Mustelier went 4-for-4 with three RBIs, including a two-run single in a five-run first inning as the Gwinnett Braves (34-43) earned a 6-0 victory over the Charlotte Knights (37-41) on Sunday afternoon at Coolray Field.

Mustelier singled in the first, second, fourth and sixth innings, becoming the second G-Brave to collect four hits in a game this season. Mallex Smith was the last to do it, going 4-for-5 on April 9 at Norfolk.

Right-hander Lucas Harrell (W, 3-1) and three relievers combined on a 10-hit shutout, Gwinnett’s fifth this season and first since a 4-0 win on May 6, also against Charlotte.

In the first against Charlotte starter Tyler Danish (L, 0-2), Gwinnett took an early advantage it wouldn’t relinquish. Ozzie Albies led off with a double into the right field corner and moved to third on a single by Jordan Pacheco.

Matt Tuiasosopo knocked in Albies with an RBI single, and two batters later, Rio Ruiz extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a single. Mustelier drove in two on a line drive to right before Matt Lipkaand Mel Rojas Jr. laced RBI singles to cap the frame. Gwinnett sent 10 men to the plate and scored five runs in the first inning for the second straight game.

Mustelier plated Reid Brignac with a single in the second inning to cap the G-Braves’ scoring output.

Harrell allowed just six hits and a walk over 6.0 scoreless innings. He struck out five and threw 60 of his 88 pitches for strikes. Kanekoa Texeira, Stephen Janas and Jose Ramirez closed it out for the G-Braves, firing 3.0 scoreless frames of relief.

Every member of the G-Braves’ starting lineup recorded at least one hit as the team totaled 16 hits on the day. Albies, Ruiz and Braeden Schlehuber each had two hits for Gwinnett, which went 8-for-17 with runners in scoring position.

Danish allowed six runs on nine hits in 2.0 innings for Charlotte. Louis Silverio went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and Matt Davidson added two hits for the Knights, who went 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base.

The G-Braves hit the road to begin a seven-game road trip with the first of three games in Indianapolis on Monday night. First pitch at Victory Field is set for 7:05 p.m. Left-hander Manny Banuelos (0-1, 3.98) start for Gwinnett, while the Indians will counter with right-hander Tyler Glasnow (6-2, 1.61). Tony Schiavone will have the play-by-play call on 97.7 FM at 1:35 p.m.
